Lucifer: Godless Reawakening

Chapter 320: Negotiate

Chapter 320: Negotiate

Why had the Angels and Devils fought for countless generations? To gain control of the mortal plane.

History often painted the Angels as protectors and the Devils as destroyers.

But no.

In truth, both races desired the same thing.

Dominion over the world where Emma and countless others lived.

The reason was surprisingly simple.

"Nexus," Raphael revealed. "That world is believed to be the key."

Emma raised an eyebrow.

"The key to what?"

Crossing her arms, she leaned back in her seat and waited for an answer.

"Good question."

Raphael seemed unusually expressive today.

"It’s the key to something of immense significance. You could think of it as a library."

"A library?"

"A library that contains the records of every world, every universe, every star, and every living being."

His voice grew solemn.

"Whether human, angel, devil, or something else entirely, that place contains information on all of them."

Emma’s eyes widened slightly.

"Information...? Even yours?"

Raphael nodded.

"It contains the history of my existence. From the day I was born to the day I die, every moment is recorded there."

For a moment, silence filled the room.

Then he added,

"It is said that time itself holds no meaning within that place. Whoever reaches that library becomes..."

His gaze sharpened.

"...omniscient in the truest sense of the word."

That immediately captured Emma’s interest.

Nothing like this had ever been mentioned in the novel.

Still, the concept wasn’t entirely unfamiliar.

She had encountered similar ideas in fiction before, usually under the name of the Akashic Records.

Yet this sounded different.

Far more absolute and terrifying.

A place where time was irrelevant.

A place where one could learn not only how a person was born, but also how they would die.

Just the possibility of such knowledge was enough to change everything.

And that made Nexus far more important than she had originally believed.

"So that’s why both sides have been fighting for ages, huh?"

Emma’s voice carried a note of understanding as she pieced everything together.

Raphael nodded.

"We always tried to minimize the damage and preserve the human race, but..."

"You couldn’t."

Emma cut him off before he could finish.

Her voice was calm, almost devoid of emotion.

"You failed to protect humanity."

The words hung heavily in the air.

"In the end, only those you blessed survived. People like me."

She held his gaze.

"And even then, it wasn’t out of kindness. We survived because we were useful. Because we served as your Apostles."

For the first time in a while, Raphael looked genuinely caught off guard.

His brows rose slightly.

"Where did you hear that?"

Emma tilted her head.

A faint hint of amusement flickered across her face.

"Who do you think told me?"

Raphael fell silent.

Then he pursed his lips.

Of course.

William.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Raphael simply stared at Emma, while Emma calmly returned his gaze.

"So... he remembers the past."

Raphael leaned back slightly, his expression turning thoughtful.

"That explains his growing authority."

Emma merely shrugged.

"I won’t reveal how much he remembers."

Then her eyes narrowed slightly.

"Though I am curious about something."

Raphael remained silent, allowing her to continue.

Emma rested her chin on her hand.

"Why is someone who has always held a grudge against William suddenly asking for his help?"

For a moment, Raphael simply looked at her.

Then he let out a quiet hum.

"Have you ever heard me speak ill of him?"

Emma shook her head.

"I’m not talking about you."

"I’m talking about Lord Michael."

The atmosphere in the space shifted ever so slightly.

"I’m sure you wouldn’t have summoned me here without his permission."

Raphael exhaled slowly.

"You really are sharp."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"And yes, you’re right about that."

Resting his hands on the table, he fell silent for a brief moment before speaking again.

"Michael knows about this."

"However, he never agreed to my asking William for help."

That answer caused Emma to raise an eyebrow.

"But it doesn’t sound like he disagreed either."

Raphael didn’t answer.

He simply remained seated, his fingers lightly tapping against the table.

That silence alone was enough.

After a brief pause, Raphael said, "Soon, someone is about to arrive there...in your world, as the representative of the other side."

Emma hummed in surprise, "Other side? You mean, the underworld?"

The other side of the Death Sinks, which no one has ever seen. Even in history, whoever tried to pass the bridge has met a tragic end, and never returned to tell the horror.

Whoever has crossed the crack from the other side to enter the mortal world has only come to attack. However, this time,

"This being would try to negotiate with your lover. With...Lucifer."

"For what?" Emma asked, her tone carrying a note of concern.

"To let them take over the world, of course. But it won’t say it explicitly. Most probably break its words and make it appear as if they intend to create a peaceful world for all."

Emma tilted her head. "I thought they were preparing for a war?" Everyone believed that. The sudden disappearance of Death Sinks was taken as they were preparing for a large-scale war.

However, "No, they aren’t. Not with Lucifer out there extending his authority over the world. That’s why, even though we aren’t contacting our apostles..." Raphael paused, his expression turning plain, "Are you really grinning out of pride?"

A smug Emma nodded, "Of course, I am. I am proud to hear how both sides are wary of a single man. And that man is going to be my husband soon."

Raphael rolled his eyes and shook his head, "Well, forget about that. When that Devil appears-"

"I won’t tell what William has to do, Lord Raphael." Emma interrupted him, her voice no longer playful.

In a serious voice, she told him, "I won’t tell him what to do. I trust his judgement, and if you have allowed me to stay by his side without disturbing our lives, then I believe you trust him as well."

Raphael’s lips parted, but no word came out.

Because they both knew Emma was right about that.
