Chapter 549: Dread Vessel
Chapter 549: Dread Vessel
Lucien, wearing his signature Silverish armor and holding the Silver rune sword in his hand, walked in slow but confident steps.Opposite him stood the Corrupted Elf, oozing with malevolent hatred and killing intent directed at the Golden Prince.
Lucien sneered, "Demon, you certainly are brave standing before me again."
His tone became even more disdainful as the prince scoffed, "I could defeat you on the brink of death without much energy or even hands; do you think you have the right to face me?"
For a moment, Wangnan was stunned, until he let out a soft laugh, his elven voice soothing to the ears, "Rights? I need to have rights to stand before you and fight you?"
"You’re truly so fucking arrogant, oh Golden Prince...." said the Elf while shaking his head. But the next moment, his tone became dark, "Considering how you ran with tails tucked behind your legs like a scared lizard at the mere sight of my Master Osiris....."
Laughed Wangnan as he gave the prince a pitiful look.
The confident visage of the prince cracked because that was indeed the truth; Lucien usually did things with extreme rationality, but his need to flee in fear under the pressure of that gargantuan wave of demonic energy left a black mark on his heart.
The arrogance and rage contained in his dragon bloodline, which believed itself to be the greatest life form on the continent, roared. Lucien did not suppress that rage, as he also had been thoroughly angered by those words.
Yes, it was true that he could not contend against Osiris, who seemed to stand on an equal footing with the monstrous Valkyrie herself.
But Lucien could kill all of Osiris’s demonic minions to vent his rage, since the pureblood demon in the last clash made the effort to save all of his demonic underlings. So, killing them would indeed amount to something, thought Lucien.
Previously, while being only at the peak of the 2nd phase, he defeated Belthrax in the mid-third phase. Killing two of the six royal heirs of the minor kingdoms who all carried the demon bloodline then, almost finished off the other four if not for the intervention of Wangnan.
Then, even with both of his hands chopped off and ambushed by the Corrupted Elf, he still defeated Wangnan with a single attack.
And now he had advanced to the Third Phase. His power had grown significantly due to this step of breakthrough.
Meanwhile, in his eyes, the demon in front of him did not advance; he was still an Initial Third Phase seeker. So, how could Wangnan have the right to fight him? Or talk to him in such a rowdy manner.
Lucien raised his sword high, intending to finish the demon with one attack. A ruthless expression crossed his face; his figure overflowed with killing intent, coating his entire body with the Golden-attributed aura.
Meanwhile, Wangnan grinned; he may not have advanced a step, contrary to what Osiris had thought would happen; rather, something quite unexpected came of it, as Wangnan had sworn his complete loyalty to Osiris.
The demon within him had been greatly enhanced; as a result, his demonic ability had become frighteningly powerful. But most importantly of all, he had gained the partial demon transformation ability.
Wangnan uttered, "Switch Aspect, and activate Partial Demon transformation..."
[Switching to Chaosblood aspect]
[The Demon Bloodline is temporarily suppressing the Corrupted Elven Bloodline...]
[Activating Partial Demon Transformation...]
[Activating Demonic Ability Dread Vessel]
[As long as you are in the Demon Transformation state, all demonic traits and abilities will operate at a 200% capacity.]
BOOOOM!!!
An explosive wave of demonic energy burst forth from the figure of Wangnan, enshrouding the Golden Prince, almost managing to press back the Golden Aura of Lucien, albeit barely.
Wangnan’s appearance changed drastically; his skin became like a dry bark of wood, with jagged, long, deep patterns like a tree trunk all over his body.
His eyes were completely red, with no distinction between the pupil and sclera.
Two black horns growed fom his forehead, looking extremely daunting.
His stature and width both increased exponentially; a black orb pulsing with a reddish tint was on his chest. From that black-red orb, red veins popped all over his now tree-bark-like body.
At this moment, after his transformation, he looked more like a demonic tree given human-like form.
There was an unnerving feeling oozing out of the transformed Wangnan whenever anyone looked at him, a sense of trepidation that could not be suppressed within the heart of the onlookers, as if they were looking at a twisted abomination that goes against nature’s very code of conduct.
That was exactly what Wangnan had become; after all, Elves were beings who were most in tune with nature. But with the forceful influence of Axel’s powerful demon bloodline.
His pure High Elven bloodline had been turned into the Corrupted Elven bloodline.
Lucien’s eyes narrowed; unlike what one might think, the transformation of Wangnan happened in the fraction of a second.
The Golden Prince felt a severe sense of danger coming from his enemy, unlike what he felt before; without waiting a single more second, he instantly changed the form of the attack which he was about to perform to something superior, and roared, "Piercing Sword Star..."
With all the energy within him focused onto the tip of his sword, Lucien made a mighty piercing gesture; his gold-attributed refined mana, the Golden Aura, exploded with a blinding radiance. The sheer power of that attack was so blinding that one corner of the battlefield was lit up.
Many who were fighting within the range of that blinding golden light’s eruption were unable to defend themselves from their respective enemies’ attacks.
Especially the Ghost race members who were disgustingly averse to the effects of Lucien’s golden aura, which contained the gold attributes of the Golden Dragon himself.
The raw might of that positive energy was on a completely different scale now that Lucien had advanced to the Third Phase.
Wangnan roared like a wounded demonic beast, letting out an inhumane howl that made the grounds tremble. Wangnan uttered, "Dread Relocation..."
The Corrupted Elf’s demonic ability was extremely powerful depending on how one uses it; the ability Dread Vessel allows Wangnan to plant ’parasitic dread’ thoughts onto his enemies.
At first, these abstract parasites are like one or two subconscious negative whispers, insignificant. Still, the parasites feed on the host’s negative emotions, mostly those aligned with Despair or bracketed within It, and gradually grow more and more powerful.
Until becoming an avalanche of drowning negative thoughts; now these could either remain active, a constant bad whisper in the host’s mind, or explode in a sudden outburst of negativity in crucial moments, like a life-and-death battle, where one mistake could spell doom.
But the core feeling that drives and grows these abstract parasites is the exact emotion of ’Dread’.
It is the very lifeblood of the Dread Parasites.
Previously, the problem was that Wangnan had to come into physical contact with someone to plant a Dread Parasite; when it came time to reabsorb it, he had to do so again.
But after his bloodline purification, and in his demon transformation state, the necessary condition of physical limitation had been nullified.
Now, Wangnan, within a 500-meter radius, could plant the Dread Parasite onto anyone if they had enough dreadful emotions in their hearts.
And when the Human army saw their invincible Valkyrie being pushed back by the masked demon named Osiris so blatantly. The emotion of Dread had long taken hold of them from the sight of it.
Making it ever so easy for Wangnan to plant his parasitic Dread thoughts onto the thousands of Third Phase seekers and beyond.
And what could Wangnan do with those growing Dread Parasites?
With just one command, the corrupted elf in his demon state could converge all the spread-out Dread parasites onto a selected handful of people or just one person.
Even being able to gather it all back into himself, he could use all the harvested negative emotions of Dread parasites to augment any or all of his stats, depending on the quantity/quality of the Despair-based emotions harvested by all the Dread parasites.
And the only one who could absorb almost any negative emotions or even transform each to another was none other than his Lord, Osiris.
But regardless of how overpowered the ability Dread Vessel seemed, it also had countless unseen disadvantages and required too many outside variables for its true might to surface.
Wangnan grinned like the demon he was, despite Lucien’s mighty strike having torn a hole through his stomach, because those many conditions had long since met. And due to that very reason, he was one of the deadliest entities that existed within the confines of the warzone.
Enough so that even the main character of the ’World of Eldarion’ himself had to be wary.
Amid the blinding golden radiance that followed after Lucien’s sword strike, after a few seconds, a blackish dot appeared on it. Slowly, the blackness began to spread, as if the corruption were a malignant virus.
A corruption so dreadful that not even the Golden radiance of Lucien Suncrest was imperceptible to it.
