Chapter 143 Deal
Chapter 143 Deal
The rest of the journey proceeded surprisingly pleasantly, despite the initial incident with the sudden appearance of my mother. I was glad to see how my mother was kind and respectful to Ema's and Lysandra's family, demonstrating genuine interest in getting to know each of us.
My mother was especially intrigued to know how we all had met. Ema took the responsibility of telling her own story, although she omitted many important details, such as her involvement in the anonymous list and other darker aspects of her past. She only provided superficial information, but my mother, with her keen insight, soon realized that there was more to Ema's story than it seemed.
As my mother observed Ema closely, she noticed the peculiarity of her physical constitution, which was a unique blend of half-Elf and half-Dwarf. This revelation confirmed my mother's suspicions about Ema's true nature and the dark truth that lay behind her superficial facade.
Tension in the atmosphere became palpable when I noticed my mother's eyes turning cold for a few seconds before disappearing completely. Fortunately, Ema seemed not to notice this change and continued with her story without any interruption. However, I was aware that something was amiss; after a few minutes, her gaze settled on Lysandra, and a small smile emerged.
Then, it was my turn to recount how I had met Lysandra. I told the basic version of our story: how I ventured alone into Zone 3 and found her being consumed by corruption. I described the hard battle I fought to cut off the corrupted part of her soul and free her from her dark prison.
Although I knew my account sounded incredible and hard to believe, I was determined to share the truth with my mother.
At first, I could perceive the disbelief in my mother's eyes, but I knew I had something that could change her mind. With a determined gesture, I pulled out the sword I had used in that battle. My mother's eyes widened at the sight of the weapon, revealing her surprise and amazement at the tangible evidence of my story.
"Y-your majesty..." Roberto began to stammer, but before he could finish his sentence, my mother raised her palm in a gesture of authority, indicating him to keep silent. "For each sword you can forge, from master rank or armor, the price rises by 1000 gold coins," she declared firmly, her voice resonating with determination. "Up to celestial rank, it can amount to a total of 10,000 gold coins."
However, her tone changed slightly as she continued. "But the moment you can create an imperial-level sword or armor, you'll receive a total of 1.5 million gold coins." My mother's words hung in the air, making clear the value she assigned to Roberto's skill.
"It's quite fair," she added, her expression serious and uncompromising. "We don't take advantage of the weaker. It's a shame for our family, so I won't accept a discount." Her posture was firm, showing that there was no room for negotiation on this matter.
"Even," she continued, "my husband will be delighted to have a smith of such a high level in our service." Her voice revealed a mix of pride and expectation, making it clear that she greatly valued Roberto's skills and was willing to compensate him generously for his work.
"Of course, there are exceptions, depending on the quality of the weapon or armor, the value may go up or down," my mother explained with a calmness that contrasted with the seriousness of her words. She lifted my imperial sword in her hands, examining it closely. "This imperial-level sword is of high grade, so the price rises to 2 million gold coins."
Her eyes settled on me with an intensity that made me feel uncomfortable, but I did my best to maintain my composure. "And I'm pretty sure my son barely gave you a few gold coins," she continued, her tone taking on a reproachful note. Though her gaze turned fierce, I struggled to ignore it, keeping my gaze on the horizon as if unaware of her judgment.
"According to the contract my son made with you, you'll receive a total of 1 million gold coins when we get home," she finally announced, her voice firm and resolute. It was evident that my mother was committed to ensuring that Roberto received fair compensation for his work, even if it meant intervening and adjusting the terms of the agreement.
The determination in her words made it clear that she would not tolerate any injustice or exploitation, even from her own son.
