Chapter 80 Dinner with Liam
Chapter 80 Dinner with Liam
The next two days were uneventful. Zag spent his time outside of work learning alchemy and various basic mystical knowledge from Ms. Rowan, but he kept thinking about his promise to Liam on Friday.
Finally, on Friday afternoon, after finishing a week's work and receiving his 45 shillings, Zag looked up and saw Liam standing outside the glass door.
He wasn't wearing a mage's robe, but rather a very casual outfit: a ginger-yellow sweater paired with black wool trousers, the cuffs tucked into shiny brown leather boots. He didn't even bring a staff, and he wore a dark green plaid beanie on his head.
Looking at Liam, who seemed both familiar and unfamiliar, Zag awkwardly asked, "We...are we going...to infiltrate?"
"More or less, let's go check the situation first."
As Liam spoke, he led Zag into the alley, then took out two rings from his pocket, put one on himself, and handed the other to Zag.
Then, Zag watched as Liam suddenly changed his appearance. His tall and thin figure swelled up like an inflating balloon, and he became much shorter. His facial features were also completely distorted!
He looks like a shady businessman from the north! And the kind with a really greasy vibe!
Zag asked, "Is this Agora's Concealment Ring?"
Liam replied, "No, it's a magical item, made using illusion magic. It's more reliable than the blessing of the Holy Spirit."
This statement shocked Zag: "I thought the blessing of the Holy Spirit would be more powerful."
Liam explained, "In terms of sheer effectiveness, yes, the Holy Spirit's blessing is more powerful, that's undeniable. But you can't be sure that cultists won't use the Holy Spirit's power, and a low-level Agora's Blessing of Concealment isn't a particularly difficult spell to break, so relics with Concealment-type blessings aren't very reliable."
"I see."
As he spoke, Zag put the ring on his thumb.
Then, he felt as if his field of vision had increased significantly, and then he looked down to examine his body—
He seems to have grown taller and thinner, and standing next to Liam, he looks quite comical, like a pencil and an eraser!
It was still a bit early before sunset, so Liam invited Zag to a well-known restaurant in the city center called "Fisherman's Love," which specializes in margaritas and queen dishes.
As everyone knows, there is no gourmet food in the Eternal High Kingdom; the Norse people's standard for food is simply to keep them from dying.
But that doesn’t mean they don’t have taste buds.
Compared to the cuisine of Norther, Quen cuisine is a delicacy, and its Margarita dish has almost become the "national dish" of East Coast due to its similar taste to that of the people of East Coast Port. No housewife in East Coast Port can't cook a Margarita dish!
"One black pepper beef margarita tartar pasta, one margarita seafood soup, one escargot, and one classic honey cheese roll. Thank you."
Liam didn't stand on ceremony with Zag. As soon as he sat down, he picked up the menu and started ordering, seemingly a regular customer.
"No problem, sir. Do you have any dietary restrictions?"
As the waiter spoke, he used a quill pen to write and draw on a piece of paper lined with a hard leather cushion. Zag glanced at it and realized that it wasn't writing at all, but rather some symbols and patterns that he couldn't understand.
"No, thank you."
"And what would you like, sir? What would you like to order?"
"Well……"
The waiters at the upscale restaurant were indeed well-trained, friendly, and had impeccable smiles, making the waiter feel like a breath of fresh air. However, when Zag saw the prices on the menu, he still felt a sharp pang of pain in his chest.
The cheapest honey cheese roll costs 1 shilling and 2 pence! And the black pepper beef margarita tartar pasta that Liam just ordered costs 4 shillings and 15 pence!
A meal at this restaurant is enough for Zag's salary for two days!
However, the thought that Liam would be paying made him feel less pained and he started ordering freely: "Dragon pepper lamb tartar pasta, a margarita seafood soup, and a creamy baked mussels, please."
"Dragon pepper lamb margarita tartare pasta, margarita seafood soup, creamy baked mussels... How about some dessert? The cheese roll is their signature dish!"
"No, thank you."
He has absolutely no interest in overly sweet desserts.
"Would you two like some drinks? Seawin wine? Newfield mead? We also have authentic Lunaran liqueur, also known as 'Bone-Moving Flower' liqueur."
Liam tilted his head and asked Zag, "What are your preferences?"
Zag replied, "No, but I don't recommend we drink today."
"A well-intentioned suggestion." Liam agreed with Zag's words, then asked the waiter, "Is this bottle of 'Transplanted Bone Blossom Nectar' from New Hope Distillery or Royal Lunarland?"
"We have both. If you don't want alcohol, I recommend Royal Lunarland. This brand is alcohol-free. New Hope's is a low-alcohol brand, which won't make you drunk, but it still contains alcohol."
Liam nodded: "Then a bottle of Royal Lunaland, please."
"Okay, one bottle of Royal Lunaland, would you like it chilled?"
Liam did not answer immediately, but looked at Zag again, using his eyes to ask a question.
Zag didn't know any of this, so he could only say, "Anything is fine."
"Then let it chill, thank you."
"It's my pleasure."
After the long ordering process ended, Zag looked around the restaurant with some boredom.
The decor isn't luxurious, but it carries a strong Quen style—
Flowers adorn every corner, and brightly colored glass serves as both partitions and decorations. The tables and chairs are predominantly painted in blue and white, with cushions adorned with large clusters of flowers. Numerous magical lamps illuminate the ceiling, making the interior as bright as day. Each table rests on a bronze candlestick cast in the shape of a raven, supported by a lightly scented candle.
If the person sitting across from me wasn't Liam, but a beautiful girl from Quen, it would have been a romantic and wonderful dinner.
"Queen people are romantic and warm, and they love to decorate with bright colors and flowers, which can put you in a good mood," Liam said, seemingly trying to start a conversation with Zag. "That's why I loved dining at this restaurant before I was transferred to Cabbage Town."
Zag nodded: "I can see that; you're practically a regular here."
Liam chimed in, "Yes, the prices are a bit high, but it's alright. For example, today's meal can actually be reimbursed by the association."
Zag couldn't help but complain, "I thought the association was always stingy, even making us sentries pay for our own paper and pens at the sentry post. I didn't expect it to be just a case of treating people differently based on their status. You advisors even reimburse meal expenses like this!"
Liam's meal alone was enough to cover the guardhouse's ink and paper expenses for a year!
Liam shook his head: "No, it doesn't always work, but this restaurant is a bit special. Mrs. Cecilius always likes to come here, um... you know."

【Royal Lunaran Winery】: As the name suggests, it is an enterprise that uses the name of the Elf King of the Kingdom of Lunaran. However, it is actually operated by the Elder Council of the Lunaran Ancestral Tree, which is responsible for the Elf King's daily life. The income is used to subsidize the Elf King's daily expenses and maintain the Ancestral Tree.
Additionally, the word "Royal" in Royal Lunaran Distillery is a translation; the original word in Elvish should mean "our king."
