Chapter 267: Vaelith vs Leon I: The Edict of Break
Chapter 267: Vaelith vs Leon I: The Edict of Break
"AURELIAN!"
A loud scream shot out like a thunderbolt and bounced off the weak pillars of their stand, causing half of them to slam onto the ground, shattering into countless pieces.
Black-and-white feathers exploded in the air when giant Opal Scorpions materialized from the debris of the pillars. They snared and dashed toward the direction of the rushing golden light, but turned into ashes when two pairs of feathers flew forward and sliced through them.
Blue, dusty air flew around Leon as he lunged through the scorpions’ ashes. The red-gold cloth flared behind him like flames, while the Hi-no-Kami hummed in sync with his dual hearts. His eyes blazed with the Solflare and his teeth gleamed like a daylight moon.
The stony earth behind him burned with fresh lava as Leon brought the drift shield to a stop. Evaporated air flew out of the popping ground as he jumped from the shield and slammed his boots on the ground, creating a deep, burning hole in them.
"Come out, AURELIAN!" A bone-crackling sound echoed around Leon as he increased his grip on the katana sword while sparks escaped from his skin.
Feathers flew up at the triangular entrance of the Castle of Souls and formed a breathing wall, while a cunning laughter shot through them like Zeus’s bolt.
"You’ve returned. I had not believed it to be so soon." Loud footsteps echoed from the entrance while the Castle itself crumpled inward and countless voices spun around. "It’s been a long time, my child."
Leon moved two steps forward and turned the shield into its war disc mode, then hurled it toward the wall of black-and-white feathers, but not a single one came down.
"Have you finally come to take what you left behind and beg to rule by my side?" A huge, feathered human leg passed through the wall of feathers like passing through water.
As soon as the base of the foot touched the ground, all the mountains behind Leon blasted and turned into black dust. Leon closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, then lunged forward before cracking his eyes open.
A golden fire flared around the edges of the Hi-no-Kami as they sang in the wind with the rhythm of Mozart’s Requiem: The Lacrimosa.
"This is for Wu Ze!" Leon’s face distorted as the scream tore out of his lungs like a lion’s roar. But as soon as he neared the part of the feathered being that had passed through the flapping wall, he vanished into motes of black sand.
"Where did you go? Come out and face me like you killed them with joy!" Leon swung himself and the sword like a giant tree breaking its branch. When he turned to a three-hundred-and-sixty-degree angle, he saw the black sand piling up into the feathered being.
"This is not the time to fight you, Leon Storm." A deafening sound that carried the weight of hundreds of nuclear blasts slammed Leon into the dirt when he tried to attack again.
Just as Leon slammed his palms in the dust and pushed himself onto his feet, three black feathers and four white feathers wrapped themselves around Leon and began piercing through his war suit, as if wanting to be one with him.
The blue wave of Gia, which had lost its power, waved through the darkened silver suit when one of the black feathers broke the chest metal plate. "Gia!"
Leon’s eyes glowed with joy when he saw the wave appear, but screamed in a wordless cry when the wave diminished completely. He slammed the blade of the Hi-no-Kami on the feathers and blasted them off him. "I WANTED TO JUST MAKE YOU BLEED, AURELIAN. BUT I WILL CRUNCH EVERY BLOODIED SOUL IN YOU!"
A faint smile tore across Aurelian’s lips in his Vaelith form as he saw Leon carrying the same burning rage the Destroyer did fifteen years ago. "Show me you have the same blood as your father."
The golden rolling ring above Vaelith, the Fallen Halo’s head, blazed with a black essence when he folded his feathered arms on his chest and watched Leon with the desire of death.
Vaelith sidestepped Leon’s every move like dancing barley and dropped Opal stones on Leon’s shoulders to power him up when his strength seemed to slow down.
The moment Leon managed to pluck out one of the feathers on Vaelith’s wings, Vaelith’s Wayfinder Geometric brand tattoo began to disappear from his body and slowly appeared on Leon’s right shoulder.
"Finally able to find the right wielder for one of my basic Edicts: Break." A smile tore on Vaelith’s inhuman face when he saw the shape on Leon.
A harsh red glow seeped out of Vaelith when the last piece of the Wayfinder brand tattoo disappeared from his skin, leaving the area with burn marks.
The moment Leon tried to swing his right arm, a red glow pierced into his eyes and mixed with the golden blaze while pain rattled through his upper right shoulder bone.
His dual heart pitched once, then stopped when the red glow snaked through his veins and weaved the word "Break" on the hardened golden God heart.
As soon as the last letter of the word fell on the heart, a concussive red wave like an atomic blast waved out of Leon and blasted everything away from Leon, including Vaelith himself.
Leon collapsed onto one knee, while his vision turned blurry red. "NO! No!"
He swung his head twice, then pressed his eyelids hard with a sharp exhale.
Clapping sounds echoed from Vaelith when he lowered his sharp feathered feet onto the ground. "You rely on rigid materials to survive, Leon Storm."
A bone-crackling sound echoed around him as he turned his neck sideways while a grim grin stretched on his face. "Against a Divine Command, a shield and two glowing swords are merely a brittle box you build for your own confinement."
The ground beneath his jagged toes parted aside, while a blue glow seeped out of his feet like restless souls released from their cage. "You must change how you utilize your soul."
