Chapter 672: A Real Piece of Work
Chapter 672: A Real Piece of Work
"Sure, I don’t mind. I can see that you have the Appraisal Skill too, so there’s no point in hiding it anyway. My Chemia System has two main Skills, Element Generation and Compound Generation. They’re pretty self-explanatory, the former lets me manifest elements of the periodic table, and the latter lets me combine those elements into compounds. That’s about the extent of what I can do," Explained Alkimia.
"I see, interesting. I’d like to see your Skills in action later, if that’s alright with you," I replied, before asking, "What about that Immunity Negation Skill?"
"Oh, that means Immunity Skills won’t work against my attacks. For instance, if I create a toxic element or compound, Status Effect Immunity won’t protect whoever I target with it."
"Huh. Wow, that’s actually pretty OP, wish I had that Skill," I mused, before adding as I glanced at Leto, "And what about you? How does your Reaper System work?"
"I really wanted to keep it under wraps, but I suppose I don’t have a choice," He muttered irritably, before continuing with a reluctant sigh, "I’ve got three abilities, as you’ve probably already seen, Death Scythe, Death Rattle and Touch of Death.
Death Scythe lets me summon a weapon, obviously a scythe, it drains the life force of whoever it cuts. Cut them enough times and they’ll die. Death Rattle is a wave of sound that triggers heart attacks, it won’t work on anyone with Status Effect Immunity. And Touch of Death is an instakill ability that I can only use once a day, and only within a five second window."
"Touch of Death, huh? That sounds promising...if we can somehow give you a surefire opening, that could come into play. Well, I suppose it’ll have to be a last resort. Frankly, the two of you are still pretty weak. You’ll probably die if you fight any of the Angels head-on. Don’t worry, we won’t sacrifice you or use you as bait or whatever, you won’t be forced to face any more danger that you’re willing to," I assured them with a smile.
"B-By the way, um...h-how did you two make th-this much progress? H-How do you get s-stronger?" Inquired Cleo curiously.
Oh, that’s a good question. It’s been well over a year since the Monsters were cut off from our world, so how have they gotten stronger?
"I reincarnated not long before the final battle against the Monsters. I was in Sanctuary Epsilon, and managed to kill a few Monsters when they invaded," Responded Leto smugly, looking pretty proud of himself.
"As for me, I’ve never fought anything before, but every time I use my Skills to create an element or compound for the first time, I get just a little bit stronger afterwards. There’s this abandoned building near where I live, in Sanctuary Delta, I sneak in there at night and experiment with my Skills. I’m really into chemistry, so being able to create elements and compounds at will is kind of a dream come true for me. Uh, I guess you could call it training?" Alkimia smiled sheepishly.
"Huh, that’s convenient. Based on what I’ve heard, it took you a ton of effort to keep growing stronger, didn’t it?" Mused Ciel, as she glanced at me.
"I guess, but I still progressed a lot faster than anyone without a System did. Well, Aria’s sort of an exception, she doesn’t have a System but she does benefit from mine thanks to our link. Anyway...Alkimia, I think we can work with that. This Pocket Dimension has a time dilation feature, upto where one minute out there will be one whole day in here. If you continously use your Skills and keep creating new elements and compounds, how long do you think it’ll take you to reach a Power Level of, say, a million?" I asked her.
"Uh, well...I’m really not sure. I haven’t been keeping track of my progress, so...yeah. I reincarnated a few weeks after the end of the war, by the way, so I’ve been in this era for not much more than a year. Also, I’ve already tried generating most of the elements, excluding the super dangerous ones like plutonium. But there’s a practically endless number of compounds I haven’t tried yet."
Hm, if she hasn’t been training all that frequently, it sounds like her rate of growth could be a hell of lot faster than mine and Cleo’s were.
"It’s definitely worth trying out, using the time dilation to help you put in a significant amount of training quickly. Just an hour will give you two months worth of time in here. And the three of us can help you too. Simply increasing your Power Level won’t be enough on it’s own, you also need to be able to fight," I replied objectively.
"Okay, I’ll do my best," She nodded, looking a bit nervous.
"So, what about you? Don’t suppose training will be enough to make you stronger too?" Inquired Ciel, as she glanced at Leto.
"Tch, no, it’s not that convenient. For me to get stronger, I need to kill shit. Whenever I kill, I gain power equivalent to two point five percent of the Power Level of whatever I killed. I managed to kill a few Calamity Level Monsters during the final battle, I used Death Rattle against some that didn’t have Status Effect Immunity, and I managed to land Touch of Death on a Dragon. A few of the Monsters I used Death Rattle against had Status Effect Resistance, and while they weren’t unaffected, they still survived. But I still managed to kill enough to raise my Power Level substantially. But I haven’t been able to kill anything worthwhile since then, so I’ve been stuck."
"Two point five percent, huh? Hm...an average Calamity Level Monster would have a Power Level of around 2,500,000, and two point five percent of that is, uh...a bit above 60,000. If you do manage to land a killing blow against an Angel, that could give you quite a substantial boost in power," I mused thoughtfully.
"Yeah...I’d be okay with taking a few risks if you can give me that opportunity," He responded, a dark gleam in his eyes.
Hm, it was brief, but...for an instant, I know I felt it, a hint of bloodlust. Even if it was just for a moment, he considered killing us to get stronger. But I doubt he’s that stupid, he isn’t going to risk facing the Angels alone.
Still, we’ll need to watch our backs around him. Even if he won’t make a move now, if and when we complete this trial, he might try something. Damn it, Samsara, looks like you chose a real piece of work to reincarnate...
