Chapter 3 System Efficacy and Conflicts
Chapter 3 System Efficacy and Conflicts
After tidying up the experimental area, Hick returned to his room with great excitement.
The apprentices he encountered along the way made way for him. Now, among the apprentices, Hick's reputation was terrifying; no one dared to offend him, for fear of being dragged into their experiments.
Ignoring the gazes of the apprentices on the road, Hick immediately went to sense things after returning to his room.
After a moment, he finally "saw" the true nature of the system that had descended upon the laboratory: by participating in experiments, one could obtain experiment points.
What magical effect does this number have?
It can turn the impossible into the possible!
Even the strongest mortal could never transplant dragon wings.
However, given enough experimental points, Hick could accomplish this astonishing feat.
"This...this is simply the authority of the Creator!" Hick exclaimed, his heart pounding. He remembered the 36 points he had gained that day and quickly tried to use them.
The result, however, reignited Hick's passion.
"Insufficient participation, insufficient points, results unusable!"
After calming down, Hick pondered those words carefully.
"It seems that participation determines whether the results are usable. Experiments must be conducted to earn points, which can then be used to apply the results to oneself or to increase the success rate of experiments!"
Thinking of this, Hick knew that this matter could not be rushed. He had already become an apprentice, which made him different from other apprentices.
Time is on your side.
"Knock knock knock".
Just as Hick was still thinking, there was a knock on the door.
The knocking was neither hurried nor slow; Hick knew it was one of his predecessor's lackeys.
Sixteen-year-old Hick had only been in the Wizarding Tower for three years. During those three years, he had spent most of his time assisting his mentor.
He was able to receive this honor entirely because of his amazing talent in anatomy, which made his mentor, Perot, take notice of him and take him on as an assistant.
Now a second-level apprentice, Hick is among the best of the apprentices—and it's worth noting that there are many veterans, some of whom are decades old, among the first-level apprentices.
With such a status and position, it's natural that people would try to curry favor with him.
"What is it?"
Hick replied casually, not paying much attention to the visitor's purpose, his tone quite indifferent.
The visitor wasn't annoyed, or perhaps they were already used to it.
"Boss Hick, that guy Lor has become a Level 3 Apprentice. He doesn't seem very happy with his assignment at the plantation."
Upon hearing the words of the newcomer, Hick narrowed his eyes slightly.
Lor is an apprentice who is at odds with his predecessor, or rather, the person behind Lor is at odds with his mentor.
"It seems they don't know that their mentor's experiment was successful, nor do they know that I have become Professor Perot's apprentice."
Thinking of this, Hick's lips curled into a slight smile: "They really don't know what's good for them."
Hick originally planned to play it safe, but now he has a system and a mentor who will soon become a second-level wizard.
Hick now feels that he needs to be a little more high-profile, as that would be in line with the original owner's personality.
With that thought in mind, Hick changed into his wizard robes (apprentice version) and strolled out of the room.
The person outside the door looked puzzled and surprised when they saw the insignia hanging on Hick's wizard robe.
Noticing the confusion in the man's eyes, Hick touched the pendant on his chest and said calmly, "My mentor is in a good mood today."
Although the sentence was a bit strange, the person still understood its meaning.
"Congratulations, Boss Hick! I knew you could become Master Perot's disciple."
The first-level apprentice named Kurt, looking at the disciple's pendant on Hick's chest, quickly transformed his surprise into fervent admiration and a barely perceptible hint of relief. He had gambled correctly; he had latched onto the most powerful patron!
"Boss Hick, are you going in person? Lor is only a level three after all..."
Kurt cautiously offered his reminder, trying to demonstrate his loyalty and thoughtfulness.
Hick didn't stop walking; the hem of his wizard's robe traced a cold, hard arc in the dimly lit corridor.
The corner of his mouth curved into a cold, mocking smile: "Third-level apprentice? Ha." That soft chuckle was filled with contempt for the conventional logic of the hierarchical system.
If he were outside and encountered a level three apprentice, Hick would definitely not go.
But this is the Wizard's Tower, where rules outweigh ability for apprentices.
And his current identity is one of the biggest rules!
Kurt was taken aback by the absolute confidence in Hick's words. After thinking for a moment, he understood the key point.
Hick is now a formal disciple of Mentor Perot, and his status has long surpassed that of an ordinary Level 3 apprentice.
Realizing this, Kurt quickly jogged to catch up, his face full of smiles.
He had a vague feeling that today, Boss Hick seemed more experienced and...unfathomable than ever before.
The plantation is located south of the Wizard's Tower, and there are many areas here where enchanted plants have been cultivated.
The garrison duties in these planting areas are also highly sought-after in the Wizard Tower missions.
Compared to those apprentices who fight to the death on missions outside, this place is much safer.
Following Kurt's directions, Hick also arrived at the plantation where the conflict had occurred.
When Hick saw that it was a planting area for crescent-shaped flowers, he almost laughed.
Crescent Flower, a demonic plant known for its ferocity and lethality.
They only bloom on the night of a full moon, and when they bloom, their already sharp leaves become extremely sensitive and aggressive, like a living meat grinder, frantically tearing apart any creature that gets close.
For wizard apprentices, picking crescent flowers is a notoriously dangerous task with a high casualty rate.
The danger was one thing, but more importantly, the flower itself was cheap and had limited uses, so the reward for the task was pitifully small, making it a prime example of thankless work.
If it weren't for the fact that Professor Perot's fusion fluid required a large amount of fresh crescent flowers as a core catalyst, the original Hick would never have bothered to take on this hot potato.
Lorre or his mentor chose to launch an attack here, targeting the necessities of Pelosi's experiment. The purpose and provocation were blatantly obvious.
"It seems they've realized something, but unfortunately, the mentor has already succeeded."
At the same time, Hick also had some doubts in his mind. Who else but himself knew that his mentor had made some progress in his recent experiments?
To think that Lor could directly snatch the Crescent Flower, when he had never told anyone that the Crescent Flower was a demonized plant created by his mentor, Pero.
The fact that the other party specifically came to compete for the Crescent Flower cultivation area suggests that they likely know the importance of the Crescent Flower to the mentor.
So...
"Mentor, it seems like there's something fishy going on around you!"
At this moment, the atmosphere at the entrance to the planting area was tense. Several low-ranking apprentices who usually depended on Hick stood timidly to the side, their faces bruised and swollen, daring not to speak out.
"Lor, this...this isn't the rule..." an injured apprentice mustered his courage and argued softly, "This area is under Boss Hick's jurisdiction..."
"Hick?" Lor scoffed, casually tossing the quest board to the ground with a crisp "thud." "A second-level apprentice who only knows how to manipulate corpses in the lab?"
"Who does he think he is! Rules? Rules are power!"
"I'm a level three apprentice now. I said I wanted the produce from this area, so it's mine! You bunch of good-for-nothings, from now on, all the profits from this area will be handed over to me!"
He glanced disdainfully at the injured apprentices. "As for Hick? Let him come talk to me himself! I want to see what makes a second-level apprentice worthy of such a good spot!"
"Oh? What do you want to talk to me about?"
