Chapter 112: Take Responsibility
Chapter 112: Take Responsibility
Standing in the line, Raiden didn’t have much to do as he chatted with the man.
"You’ve been to wilderness, right?? Can you tell me about it?? I have never been into the deep wild. Always been too afraid of it." Raiden casually put on a scared expression as he sought information.
"Hahaha, you ask the correct person, boy. Let me tell you, I, The Fierce Roy, am the most experienced person in here. I’ve been to the deep wilderness more times than the people you’ve met in life."
Hearing the man boast, a sneer appeared in Raiden’s mind, but he kept asking anyway.
"Wow, so awesome, so amazing. Tell me more about it. What kind of missions did you do?"
"You should be asking what kind of missions I didn’t do!! I did missions of rescuing, gathering, and killing someone. There is nothing I don’t dare to do. I even killed a Platinum-Tier Terra once!!"
"No way!! Then you must be the strongest person in the base camp, right??" Hearing Raiden’s words, the man couldn’t help but blush a little.
"Ahem, about there. There are a few people who are about equal to me in power. As for the rest, no one dares to compare." The man turned down his boasting a little bit, as if he was afraid of getting labelled as the strongest.
Raiden nodded along with the person.
"I see, I see. Then, can you tell me who the strongest are aside from you? Just in case I know who not to offend other than you."
Hearing Raiden’s words, the man paused a little, his expression turning into a hesitating one, as if calculating the risks.
"Ahem, well, there are a few people whom you shouldn’t be offending, including the one-eyed Raven, the Beast Tamer, the Rat Killer, the Snake Eyes, etc. But you must absolutely remember to never ever offend the Crimson-Haired Witch." His Voice turned into a whisper by the end, as if he was afraid of even saying the name.
"What are you doing??"
"Ahhhhhhh!!!!"
The man screamed and jumped up so loudly in the air that everyone turned their heads towards him.
But he wasn’t able to register any of that, as he himself was close to pissing himself in fear.
"M-m-miss Isadora. G-good day!! I was j-just praising you in front of the n-newbie!! I-I-"
"Why didn’t you call me? You came here and wasted your time by lining up, huh? Come on and follow me." Isadora clicked her tongue and started walking in front of the line, completely ignoring the man as if he didn’t exist.
"Coming!! Sorry for that, I thought you would be busy or something." Raiden called out as he jogged after her, nodding to the men who talked to him along the way.
The man, however, slammed himself down on the ground in fear as he watched them go.
’Big brother, if you know someone like Crimson Witch, why were you chatting with a small-time thug like me? I felt like I lost half my life already.’
A wretched and crying expression appeared on his face as he watched them go. He decided that from now on, he will never boast to anyone ever again. Otherwise, he might even not know how he lost his life.
Meanwhile, as Raiden followed Isadora deeper into the building, he noticed that almost everyone who saw her had an expression of fear on their face, and all of them scrambled to get out of her way, fearing that they weren’t fast enough.
Isadora took it for granted, and she kept walking before reaching the counter.
"Miss Isadora, welcome back." The girl behind the counter stood up and bowed to her formally.
"Hmm. This guy is with me. Take his biometric and register him to be part of the alliance army. I want it done at the fastest speed possible, understood?? Follow me."
She didn’t wait for a reply as she started walking in once again.
"Understood, ma’am, it’ll be done."
Raiden nodded politely to the girl who just told him to stand still for a second. She brought out a mini camera-like device, took his picture, then sent him on his way.
All of this process took less than 10 seconds as Raiden found himself following Isadora once again inside the building.
"Tell me, boy, my dear little daughter, when she ran away from home, did she stay with you??" Isadora asked in a casual voice, almost making Raiden stumble and fall.
He didn’t know how to reply to that. Both yes and no felt like the wrong answers.
"Wow, Miss Isadora, you are so smart, you have such a sharp mind!!" Raiden praised naturally. Can’t you go with praising someone, right? Everyone likes to be praised.
"That is not what I asked. Did my daughter stay with you or not??" Her voice was still a little casual when she asked the question, but with a dangerous undertone beneath it.
"Yes. She stayed with me for the past half a month." Raiden gritted his teeth and admitted it directly. He refused to believe that her family didn’t keep tabs on her or did not know where she went.
"Good. At least you dare to admit it. Now, let’s talk about taking responsibility." Raiden found himself inside a cosy little office as he followed her with a big desk and a chair on it.
Isadora walked behind the desk and sat on that executive chair, as she levelled her eyes on him.
"Huh?? Responsibility??"
"Yes! Don’t tell me you are planning to run away, huh? After doing ’this’ and ’that’ with my daughter. Do you take my Solaris clan as some pushovers??" A sudden pressure fell upon his shoulders.
"Huh?? What this and that?? Let me tell you, we didn’t do anything, okay?" Raiden fired back.
"So you dare to do it, but you dare not to admit it, brat?? She is a young and unmarried woman who stayed over at your place for so many days. Whether you two did anything or not doesn’t matter. Her reputation is already sullied. So I don’t care, but you must take responsibility for her!!"
Isadora spoke domineeringly as she looked at Raiden, or more specifically at the spider and sheep in his hands.
Such a good boy with so much potential. She must absolutely not let him get away from their hands. She was sure Morgana would thank her if she did it anyway.
On the other hand, hearing the logic in her words, Raiden felt speechless. It was a trap, an absolute trap. No matter what he said, he couldn’t run away from it.
What kind of bullshit reasoning was this?? They weren’t living in the dark ages, where things like reputations and all mattered so much.
All the young people nowadays had two girlfriends and three boyfriends.
Before getting married, who didn’t have a few relationships nowadays?? This was an absolute bullshit reason, clearly made up on the spot after watching too many dramas to trap him here.
Thankfully, he had already confirmed his relationship with her. Otherwise, he would have felt really wronged getting forced into one. And from the looks of things, Morgana didn’t tell anyone about them yet.
Looking at the bewitching face that was putting on an act in front of him, Raiden narrowed his eyes.
’Since you want to play like this, lady. Let’s play. When it comes to matters like this, I, Raiden Ashford, never lose to anybody else.’
Raiden put on what he thought was the best smile on his face before he started talking.
"Wow, you are completely right, mother-in-law. No, I should call you mother now. No matter what, I can not let any harm come to my dear wife’s reputation. I’ll call her right now, and we can get married tomorrow!! No, today!!"
He pulled his phone out and pretended to call her, making Isadora panic a bit.
"Wait!! Ahem, I mean, wait a little, dear son-in-law~ Have a seat, drink some juice. We shouldn’t be in such a hurry about it, ok?" She wiped a sweat off her face as she called him a ’little bastard’ in her mind.
"No way! What if someone finds out about it and decides to mock her? I can’t stand that. I can’t stand that anyone will mock my wife or call her things like shameless. Ok? We must get married as fast as possible. Also, what son-in-law? That sounds so distant. Call me your son." Raiden casually closed the distance between them and held her hand as he stared into her eyes, making her eyebrow twitch.
"It’s fine, it’s fine. I guarantee you no one will dare to mock someone from our Solaris family. But you shouldn’t be in such a hurry to get married right now, okay? You are so young. Wait until you are both 21 and above." A ’sweet smile’ appeared on her face as she squeezed this little bastard’s hand tightly, making his bones creak a little.
Raiden, on the other hand, was unfazed. He had felt so much worse pain in the past two months that he started to feel a little desensitised to it.
"No way, that’s so far away. I can’t wait that long to be together with my wife. Eighteen!! We must get married at 18 years old. No more."
"Fine, eighteen it is, my dear son~"
"Haha, thank you, mother. So what about my dowry??? I don’t want much, just give me a few Billion Credits and a few hundred Golden Trees."
Hearing this, Isadora lost it.
"You little—!!
