Chapter 794: Secret Passage, Where Did Everyone Go?
Chapter 794: Secret Passage, Where Did Everyone Go?
Li Qingmu looked at the suddenly appearing tunnel entrance, utterly incredulous.
He had checked this place before; it was as flat as a pancake, with no signs of a mechanism seam. Yet, it had appeared just like that!
Suddenly, he remembered his father Qi Yun’s underground secret chamber in the Imperial Palace, which was also so well-crafted that no clues could be seen.
He remembered Qi Yun saying it was the Lu Family who had created it; their research into Mechanical Techniques had reached an extraordinary peak.
Now it seemed, indeed, it was no lie.
"Hey, it’s pitch black down there. Could there be some monsters waiting for us? Or maybe some other mechanism waiting to turn us into sieves?"
Broken Jade lightly nudged Zhe Feng beside him, jokingly.
Zhe Feng’s face was black-lined: "I don’t know!"
They could only find out by going down. Simply guessing was pointless; he wasn’t a god!
"Ah, ah, ah!"
You’er suddenly shouted and shook her head, indicating the tunnel was safe?
Long Yue nodded slightly: "This is the invaluable advice given by the master. I think he wouldn’t harm us. A Mu, shall we go down and take a look?"
"Okay!"
Li Qingmu really didn’t mind, as long as he could be with his little wife. Besides, if there was danger in here, he believed he would sense it, but since there wasn’t, it was safe.
And so, the group entered the passage and descended step by step along the branching staircase.
Below, it was pitch black, but the walls were inlaid with Luminous Pearls the size of fists, which were enough to light their way.
The passage had thin air, making it feel a bit suffocating. Fortunately, as they entered, Li Qingmu sensed a faint breeze flowing around them.
"How strange, why is there wind here?"
Broken Jade stared at the wisp of hair on her forehead fluttering and asked, intrigued.
Li Qingmu: "We probably opened the secret passage, triggering some of its ventilation mechanisms. That’s why the air is flowing, creating wind."
"Oh, that’s good. This means we won’t suffocate to death in here."
Broken Jade joked for a bit.
Li Qingmu said nothing; he just kept moving forward, forward...
The passage widened, and along the way, they saw neatly arranged supplies.
These supplies were stored in boxes, well-preserved.
"A Mu, don’t you think this place is meant for people to take refuge?"
Long Yue looked at the food and dried vegetables and fruits with curiosity.
Li Qingmu said nothing, just holding his daughter as he kept walking forward until a stone door suddenly appeared ahead.
The stone door looked simple, plain, with no engravings or patterns. Li Qingmu knocked on it, finding it seemed solid and contained no oddities inside; he was relieved.
"There’s a mechanism here."
He said, feeling around until he touched a symbol, then pressed it.
"Boom, boom, boom," a series of noises echoed, and the stone door opened.
Inside, it was a secret chamber!
The chamber contained three beds, several tables and chairs, and even a stove for cooking.
To an uninformed person, it seemed like the walls of a master bedroom and kitchen had collapsed!
Li Qingmu looked at Long Yue, his gaze peculiar. Long Yue quickly said, "Don’t ask me; it’s all written in the master’s advice. Perhaps the master... really is prescient?"
Somehow, when someone is too powerful and mysterious, it’s unsettling. Long Yue felt uneasy for a moment, but she trusted her eyes and intuition more!
The master wasn’t a bad person; he wouldn’t harm them!
"Let’s settle in first!"
For now, they had no other options but to stay and make plans afterward.
"You’er, you’re good at hiding and escaping, why don’t you go up to check the situation?"
No one knew what it was like above, so someone had to scout. The daunting task seemed only suitable for You’er.
Broken Jade was too reckless, Zhe Feng too straightforward, neither was suitable.
But You’er was brought by Long Yue, and issuing orders to him needed her consent.
You’er looked at Long Yue, who thought Li Qingmu’s words made sense. Despite You’er’s young age and playfulness, he was never careless when it mattered. She felt assured letting him go.
Thus, with Long Yue’s approval, You’er went out to gather information.
"There’s a cave over there; perhaps people are inside it. Quick, go!"
"You all surround it from this side, and you go from that side, enclosing it. Don’t let even a fly escape!"
"Yes!"
The one leading the search was Yan Dan. He seemed to have high status among the crowd, able to direct people sharply. They dispersed, surrounding the area.
"Yan Dan, there’s no one inside!" A woman in a red dress walked out of the cave, annoyed. "Damn it, that bitch really got away! She killed our companion; when we catch her, I want to tear her to pieces!"
When she spoke, her murderous intent sent a chill down people’s spines.
Yan Dan touched his nose and chuckled: "Chi Yan, capture them first; all your tough talk will only get mocked."
"I know, I don’t need your preaching!"
Chi Yan glared at Yan Dan, clearly displeased with his bluntness.
Yan Dan grinned, realizing the stereotype about women’s vanity was indeed true. Yet, why did that woman not care about vanity?
Yan Dan found it puzzling.
"Yan Dan, do you think there could be a secret passage here? Did they hide in it? After all, she’s a pregnant woman, almost due, running far doesn’t seem feasible."
"We searched around and found footprints that look like a man’s, appearing without returning."
A man walked out, reporting the situation he surveyed nearby.
Yan Dan nodded slightly: "Good, then let’s search the cave carefully and strive to find the tunnel."
He didn’t say "must find it," but "strive," which could mean something else to keen ears.
Fortunately, everyone was focused on finding a secret passage in the cave and didn’t scrutinize Yan Dan’s words.
The group began searching but found nothing after some time, not on walls, beds, or under beds.
In fact, if they looked up from under beds, they’d see the mechanism. Yet, there were over a dozen, scattered in the recessed areas below beds. Without the invaluable advice, they were undetectable.
"There’s nothing, now what?"
After a round of searching, enthusiasm turned to anxiety.
If they couldn’t find Long Yue, and the master found out, he’d definitely be furious. Who’d bear his wrath then?
The thought was chilling!
