Chapter 667: The More They Explained, the More Suspicious It Looked

Tu Yelang’s long ears instantly turned bright red. A few moments later, after confirming he was properly covered up, Lan Yue slowly opened her eyes.The atmosphere between them immediately became awkward. Very, very awkward. Neither of them knew what to say next.

Then, Tu Yelang finally looked at her carefully, studying her features. The more he looked, the more familiar she seemed to be.

Suddenly, his eyes widened in recognition. "Wait. Are you Sister Qinglan’s younger sister?"

Lan Yue blinked, surprised. Then she nodded. "Yes. Su Qinglan is my elder sister."

Realization instantly dawned on Tu Yelang, and he clapped his hands together.

"So it’s really you!" He had heard rumors about her before.

Everyone in Dragon Beast City knew that the priestess’s second daughter was actually a very beautiful mermaid, and the city lord of Fox Beast City had come knocking on their doors, just for her.

But hearing about it and seeing it in person were two completely different things. This was his first time seeing a real mermaid.

His gaze unconsciously drifted down toward her beautiful blue tail. It shimmered beautifully beneath the crisp winter sunlight.

Without thinking, completely mesmerized, he reached out his hand. "Wow... so this is really..."

His finger lightly brushed against her smooth, cold fin.

Lan Yue instantly jerked backward, splashing the water. Her tail immediately disappeared behind her arms as she curled up. "You can’t touch a female’s tail!" Her face exploded in red again.

Tu Yelang froze, pulling his hand back as if he had been burned.

"Oh! Sorry! I was just curious! I didn’t mean to disrespect you!" Now his face was just as red as hers.

The atmosphere became even more awkward. The two sat there on the ice, staring in completely opposite directions. Neither dared to look at the other.

After a while, Tu Yelang let out a tight cough. Then he said seriously, "Little female, you really shouldn’t do this."

Lan Yue peeked at him. "Do what?"

"Sleeping in freezing water, not wearing enough clothes, and coming all the way out here alone," Tu Yelang listed, counting on his fingers. "What if something bad actually happened?"

Lan Yue puffed her cheeks out defiantly. "I told you, I wasn’t sleeping."

"You just admitted you were."

Lan Yue instantly choked on her words, unable to argue.

Tu Yelang continued, looking around the empty shore. "And where are your beast husbands? We should call them over to take you home safely."

The moment she heard that, Lan Yue nearly jumped out of her skin in a panic. "No!"

Tu Yelang blinked at her sudden shout. "No?"

"No!" Lan Yue shook her head frantically, her eyes wide with fear. "Don’t call them! If they find out I secretly came here and did this, I’ll never be allowed near the river again! They’ll lock me in the house!"

Tu Yelang imagined two furious, high-ranking beastmen arriving at the scene.

Then he imagined himself being caught sitting completely alone beside their soaking-wet, beautiful mate. His expression immediately changed, a cold sweat breaking out on his neck.

"Actually..." Tu Yelang cleared his throat quickly. "Maybe we don’t need to call them right now."

Both of them looked at each other, shared a moment of mutual panic, and then immediately looked away again.

Another heavy, awkward silence followed.

At that exact moment...

Splash!

A little black-and-white head suddenly emerged from the center of the water hole. The little orca cub blinked his round eyes.

First, he looked at his mother. Then, he looked at the strange rabbit beastman.

Then, he looked back at his mother’s incredibly red face. Finally, he stared at the rabbit beastman’s red face and long, twitching ears.

The little cub tilted his head in pure confusion. For some reason, the atmosphere here felt very, very strange.

Tu Yelang immediately stood up straight, scrambling back a step.

Lan Yue immediately sat up taller on the shore. Both of them spoke at the exact same time, their voices echoing loudly.

"Nothing happened!"

The little orca blinked again, floating silently in the water. "...Yip?"

Neither of the two young beastmen realized that answering together in a panic only made the entire situation look completely and utterly suspicious.

Lan Yue became even more embarrassed. She felt a deep wave of guilt wash over her, feeling as though she had been caught doing something terribly scandalous, and worse, she had just been scolded by her own infant son!

"I’m going back!" she blurted out, her voice squeaking.

She glanced at Tu Yelang nervously. "You... you should go too!"

Without waiting for his reply, she swam over to the edge and ducked behind a large boulder to hide herself.

Shivering slightly from the sudden cold breeze, she quickly dried her skin and threw on all of her heavy winter clothes and long skirts once again, her shimmering blue tail disappearing to make way for her human legs.

She carefully lifted her little orca son out of the water and tucked him snugly back into his woven basket.

Stepping out from behind the rock, she looked at the animal hide Tu Yelang was holding. "You... you give my coat back," she muttered, pointing at it.

Realizing she was still uncomfortable, Tu Yelang didn’t hesitate.

With a soft ’poof,’ he immediately transformed back into his animal form...a large, incredibly fluffy rabbit.

He figured that at least this way, his thick fur would completely cover him, and she wouldn’t have to feel awkward looking at an exposed male.

As a male beastman, he didn’t care about being bare in the wild, but he knew it would be truly shameless to act completely unbothered in front of a strange female.

Females were fragile, delicate creatures, and he didn’t want to seem like a beast with no manners.

Lan Yue wrapped her large fur coat tightly around herself once again. When she looked down at the rabbit beastman, her fingers suddenly twitched with an intense urge to reach out.

’Wow...’ she thought, her eyes widening slightly.

’This rabbit beastman is so incredibly cute.’

It was actually her very first time seeing a rabbit beastman, as there weren’t many of his kind living inside Dragon Beast City. His snowy fur was so plush and clean.

But then, she suddenly remembered that beneath all that fluff, he was actually a fine young man who was already at the ideal age for mating.

If he already had a mate, it would be highly improper and shameless of her to stare at him like this!

Blushing furiously at her own wild thoughts, Lan Yue immediately grabbed the handles of her little basket, turned on her heel, and dashed toward her house at top speed, her embarrassed expression hidden beneath her hood.

Seeing her run away like the wind, the rabbit shifted smoothly back into his human form.

Tu Yelang reached up, casually pushing a few wet strands of hair back from his forehead as he watched her retreating figure disappear into the snowy distance.

"What a strange female," he muttered to himself with a shake of his head.

Completely unbothered by his nakedness, he calmly walked back over to the other side of the shore to retrieve his proper clothes and his fresh catch of fish, ready to head home to his sister.
