Chapter 16 Preparations
Chapter 16 Preparations
Vijay opened his eyes and found himself all alone.
Only the lingering warmth remained beside her; the disgraced Vaishya girl came and went without a sound, leaving not a single word, making everything seem like a beautiful spring dream.
He got out of bed, feeling a little melancholy, but this feeling was quickly overshadowed by the troubles he was about to face.
"Bim!" Vijay looked toward the room where the servants were resting.
"Master," Bim appeared in front of Vijay in almost a second.
It's clear that this old fellow has had a good rest; a faint red glow shines through his dark skin.
"Do you remember what goods you, my great-grandfather, my grandfather, and my father took with them when they set off for the East?"
Although he had convinced Roshman that Vijay knew everything about the journey to the East, what did Vijay actually know?
He himself didn't even know what he knew!
What specific routes will be taken? What dangers might be encountered along the way? What goods will be traded? What is the situation in the East?
But now that we've gained some time, we must try our best to make up for what we're lacking and then draw up a timetable for Roshman.
He also needed to make it seem as if he was indeed preparing to go to the East to show him.
Otherwise, given that guy's volatile temper, he might just come to his senses and slash himself with a knife.
Now, the only thing that can meet the above two requirements and is relatively easy to make a splash seems to be the procurement of goods... Old Bim just happens to be able to do this.
"By Brahma above," Bim said without the slightest hesitation, "the esteemed lord has brought snow pearls, salt, divine oil, spices, and countless gold ornaments!"
"The old master also brought along the finest cotton cloth and furs."
"The old master didn't make any extra preparations, only bringing some extra gold coins and gems..."
"Is that all?" Vijay frowned. It was normal for Bim to know the types of goods, but could these ordinary items really serve as the main body of Eastern trade, exchanging for those precious treasures that both Brahmins and Kshatriyas coveted?
"If I were to prepare it, could you gather all the goods?" Although he was puzzled, Vijay couldn't think of any more details about trade and transportation.
In his view, doing trade is nothing more than taking advantage of information asymmetry, controlling scarcity, and buying low and selling high.
Before you know anything about the details of the East, all the tricks you know are completely meaningless!
And that's not the point. It's enough to know that gold is still a hard currency in the East.
Anyway, the gold hidden underground in his house should be enough for him to organize a few decent caravans.
"Brahma above, sir! Rest assured, old Bim can handle these matters!" Bim offered no resistance to the task assigned by Vijay, shaking his head as he agreed.
"Very good!" Vijay looked at his old servant with satisfaction. If it weren't for this loyal servant by his side, he would have suffered a lot!
"Then go and prepare. You decide how much money you need to buy!" After thinking about the gold filling the secret room, it seemed that this was the last thing he lacked. Vijay readily delegated the authority: "Prepare according to the standard quantity my father used when he succeeded, but I need you to make a big fuss about it."
Seeing that the old servant didn't quite understand his hint, Vijay raised his hand and gestured: "At least half of Harappa City must know that Vijay of the Mittal family, with Lord Roshman's support, is setting off for the East!"
"Yes, Master!" Bim was puzzled, but didn't say anything more. Years of obedience had turned him into a yes-man who only knew how to nod and complete his master's tasks.
"Shiva, go forth and do it beautifully!"
After watching Bim leave the room, Vijay got out of bed and started moving around in the empty room.
He completed a basic set of Calariat body-strengthening techniques without any hindrance, leaving his body slightly sweaty.
The hidden injuries inflicted by Roshman were still throbbing slightly, but he could feel that his physical condition was recovering very well!
Vijay was still somewhat dissatisfied because after completing the set of movements, he didn't feel any improvement in his body!
Stagnation is not a good thing!
Should we add some points? Or should we see if we can find further training methods?
Vijay thought for a moment and realized he couldn't leave Harappa City today.
Besides arranging the purchases for Bim, he also needed to wait for Dharma's arrangements, and it was also essential for him to meet with the powerful Brahmin before setting off.
Then I should prepare some offerings in advance!
Although all the treasures he brought were confiscated by Roshman, he still had a considerable amount of gold on him, enough to make a set of "Ten Offerings" without any problem.
According to Mittal Vijay, the first audience with Manu required adherence to the basic rituals as stipulated in the Manu Code.
First, you need to give the unfamiliar superior a way to get to know you, let the superior become familiar with your existence, appropriately show some good points, then show some flaws, and later offer treasures to get closer to the relationship. Only in this way will it seem reasonable.
It's kind of funny, really. This whole thing seems to be the same no matter which world you're in!
These are two things I need to do myself.
Vijay dressed neatly, ready to go out and run errands, and take the opportunity to explore this city that was both strange and familiar.
"Bim, get ready..." She had just subconsciously called out to the old servant when she suddenly remembered that she had already assigned him a task.
It's really inconvenient not having a servant by his side. He chuckled to himself, shocked by how quickly he had become corrupt and decadent.
Although I haven't been in this world for very long, I've already adapted to the feeling of being superior to others so quickly.
And who knows how long it will take before I can get used to being subordinate to others without resentment, like Bimrajan!
It might be difficult!
Vijay pushed open the door and walked into the corridor. In the courtyard, a clear spring gurgled and bubbled, its water sparkling and cool, with mist rising from it. The moonlight flowed slowly in the corridor, melodious and gentle. Attendants were busy all around, serving in an orderly manner.
As he descended the stairs, he suddenly heard a conversation. The language was elegant and melodious, but it was not the local language. Vijay looked up in the direction of the voice.
The group of people in front of them had two heads on their necks. One was a human face with gentle and kind features, and a smile on its face. The other was an unrecognizable beast head, resembling a snake or a lizard, but with a rounded outline and gentle features. The skin of the person was somewhere between scales and fish skin, with fine light brown scales hidden in the texture, which shone with a soft light under the light. The texture was tough but not rough.
Vijay froze on the spot; he had never seen such a strange race before!
Perhaps it was his direct, probing gaze that was slightly impolite, which immediately drew the beast's gaze.
Several beasts with fist-sized eyes stared directly at him, making even Vijay feel a little uneasy.
They were already being very polite by not crossing their arms over their chests and just standing there with one foot in front of the other to watch...
They're just some foreign race!
Vijay stood tall and proud, ignoring the other's gaze, and simply squeezed through the crowd of aliens, walking away triumphantly.
